Sophie Cunningham has built her reputation through toughness, reliable perimeter shooting, and a willingness to take on demanding defensive assignments. Born in Columbia, Missouri, she developed into one of the most productive players in the University of Missouri’s women’s basketball history before being selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2019 WNBA Draft.

After six seasons in Phoenix, Cunningham joined the Indiana Fever in 2025. Playing alongside high-profile teammates brought her to a wider national audience, but her story began long before the spotlight: with a family connected to college athletics, a record-setting college career, and years of steady work as a professional guard.

This guide separates verified career facts from estimates and online rumors, particularly when discussing her finances and private relationships.

Who Is Sophie Cunningham?

Sophie Elizabeth Cunningham is an American basketball player who competes in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She became known for her shooting range, physical defense, energy off the bench, and competitive personality. Her main professional teams have been the Phoenix Mercury and the Indiana Fever.

Cunningham’s career has involved more than scoring. Coaches have used her as a perimeter defender, a floor spacer, and an experienced teammate who can bring intensity to a lineup. Her ability to make three-point shots can create room for star teammates to attack the basket, while her defensive approach often makes her a noticeable presence during high-pressure games.

She also became more familiar to casual sports fans after joining Indiana in 2025, a period when national interest in the Fever and the WNBA increased. Media attention has sometimes focused on her personality and off-court comments, but her basketball career remains grounded in her college records and professional seasons.

Sophie Cunningham 2026 Stats and Achievements

Official WNBA player data lists Cunningham’s 2026 regular-season averages at 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. These figures describe the 2026 season and should not be confused with her career averages or earlier seasons.

Her college achievements and long professional career are more meaningful indicators of her basketball journey than a single season’s statistics.

Sophie Cunningham Salary and Contract

Sophie Cunningham’s reported salary for the 2026 WNBA season was $665,000. Established sports reporting and contract trackers described her Indiana Fever agreement as a one-year deal covering that season. The WNBA does not maintain a public database of every player’s contract terms, so the figure should be treated as reported salary information rather than a direct league disclosure.

A player’s annual salary is not the same as net worth. Net worth estimates attempt to account for assets, liabilities, taxes, expenses, investments, and income from different sources. Those details are private for most athletes.

Sophie Cunningham Net Worth in 2026

There is no publicly audited statement establishing Sophie Cunningham’s net worth. Online celebrity-finance websites and sports publications have published estimates, but the numbers differ and their calculations are generally not transparent. For that reason, a precise net-worth figure should not be presented as confirmed fact.

Potential income sources include WNBA salary, endorsement partnerships, media appearances, podcast work, and other commercial projects. The exact value of many sponsorships is not public, and the total value of her assets is unknown.

For readers searching for “Sophie Cunningham net worth 2026,” the most accurate answer is that her wealth has not been officially disclosed. Her reported 2026 salary provides one useful data point, but it cannot by itself establish her overall net worth.

Reports have linked her to Frank Adams after they were seen at some of the same events, but neither has publicly confirmed that they are a couple.

Some articles have also discussed a relationship from her college years with Jakob Neidig. Other names have circulated online, but social-media speculation is not proof of a relationship. It is important to distinguish a reported rumor from a statement confirmed by the people involved.

Sophie Cunningham Injury History and Return

She returned to Indiana for the 2026 season, although she also appeared on injury reports during the year, including with a right elbow issue. Injury designations can change from game to game, so old reports should not be used to describe her current health. As of October 20, 2026, the 2026 season had ended, and this article does not make a medical prediction about her future availability.

What Makes Sophie Cunningham’s Playing Style Distinctive?

Cunningham’s game is built around perimeter shooting, defensive intensity, and role flexibility. She can space the floor when playing alongside ball-dominant teammates and can be assigned to guard opposing perimeter players. Her experience with Phoenix and Indiana has also helped her adjust to different lineups and coaching systems.

She is not usually defined by one statistic alone. Shooting efficiency, spacing, defensive assignments, and the ability to perform in high-pressure moments all influence a player’s value. Her long WNBA career and college production help explain why teams have continued to use her in rotation roles.
